I am all alone this weekend.
My original plan for Friday evening involved lots of relaxation and scrapbooking, so as soon as I came home from work I put on comfy clothes and took out my scrap supplies. Sonja called me and said she had a babysitter in case I wanted to go out to the West Side for the Cinco de Mayo celebration. I had been bugging her about going for the past few days, but she didn't think she'd be able to go. So of course I wanted to go! A chance to have some good Mexican food is one I can't pass up! A quick change of clothes and a minute to fix my hair, and I was flying out the door to get Sonja. We made it down there just in time for us to see an old friend of mine performing with the group Los Nativos on stage. I ran into a couple of other girls I know, one of whom will be on Oprah in the next few weeks. Weird!
Sony and I had a couple of cervezas and then went to Me Gusta rest. for some yummy steak tacos. The festivities on the West Side closed down early so we then moved back to our own neck of the woods.
So what better place is there to go around town on a Friday night than the White Bear Bar? This is the type of place I normally avoid because I can't stand the place, but last night it was a pretty good time because I ran into my buddy Karl. Karl is the type of guy who is super fun and cool, therefore he knows everybody everywhere he goes. I got a kick out of his hair, because this is the longest I have ever seen it...he is normally pretty "clean cut" for a hockey player. Oh, did I mention that? Karl is the Captain of the US Olympic Amputee Hockey Team. He is a total inspiration to many amputee children who want to grow up to be just like him. Gotta love him!
At Bar Close we obliged a rather impaired acquaintance, Reid, with a safe ride home...you see, I never drink and drive and I don't want anyone else to do it either. Anyway, when we brought this guy to a house nearby, which happened to be the newly occupied home of Tony B, an Olympic Luge Athlete and local star, he invited us to come in for the tail-end of their housewarming party. This turned out to be one of the best parts of the evening....a couple of the guys were pretty drunk and thought this would be the perfect time for a break dancing competition. Tony had literally moved in the house that day so there wasn't much furniture on his nice wood floors. Perfect place for break dancing, right? The two that put on the show were Stew and Christian. It was sooo hilarious! This Christian guy was extremely tall and skinny and boy, could he dance! He was doing all sorts of moves that I hadn't ever seen before and Stew was trying to keep up the act with him, so he dresses in this cute little ensemble . He thought the helmet would help him with his head spins!!These are some of the goofiest drunk men I have seen, but I have to admit it was very entertaining.
