Thought I'd spare you a video post today. LOL
Actually, I've been wanting to participate in the Thoughts for Thursday blogging group that Nicole started a few months ago, but I have just been too dang busy!
Okay...so my thoughts today are about the Environment. Tomorrow Al Gore may just win the Nobel Peace Prize for his work over the past 30 years on the environment. Have any you read or seen An Inconvenient Truth? Pretty scary when you look at all the information that has been gathered about global warming. ***ETA on 10/12/07 Al Gore was just announced as one of the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize! Congratulations, Al and collegues!
So my questions to those of you today are:
Are you aware of the devastating state of our planet's environment? (Think deforestation, global warming, extinction, loss of natural resources, etc)
Do you think improving social awareness is truly going to help or are people too self-centered?
What scares you the most about the future of our planet?
What sorts of things do you do that are environmentally responsible?
Thanks for your thoughts :)

I think you have to live under a rock to not realize what's going on nowadays...it's pretty much in every magazine, every ad, every commericial...which I think is great. Whatever gets people to be more aware! We do a few things, but I know we could be doing more. We recycle quite a bit...our town doesn't have it, but they have a center on base so we drop it off once or twice a month. We switched all the bulbs in the house to the "greener" ones, we unplug appliances, chargers, etc that are not in use, we take more showers instead of baths, we don't water our lawn unless absolutly necessary, I always turn my car off when I'm waiting to pick Alyssa up from school instead of idling, we use a reusable water bottle instead of buying plastic ones. One major thing that I want to do is buy a couple of tote bags and use those for groceries instead of the plastic or paper ones they offer at the store.
All the little things add up! We even see a slight change in our electric bill now that we switched the bulbs and are more careful about unplugging things/turning things off.

I agree with Jessica, the little things really do add up!! I have more that I want to do, I just need to apply it.

Sadly enough, despite being bombarded with the ads, I don't think people care, or feel that their efforts really matter. I think a lot of people really don't think it affects them, or will in the near future. Most people see it as a far off thing and don't concern themselves with it. Sometimes reality bites, but I honestly feel that so many people really don't care.

i agree with all the ladies so far. we do little things in our own home that i feel help (and actually help us save $ too). but on a larger scale, i think many people feel that they can't make a difference or that it won't effect them so why bother.

have you ever looked at the impact of eating meat on the environment...one more reason to swear of the red stuff!

I haven't read or seen this. I agree with all the comments though. The little things do add up. We recycle A LOT. And we do try to do little things around the house too.

i am not an al gore fan, but this is a great topic. if everyone could just do a little more to help the environment, it would make a difference.

I just recently started recycling. I didn't even realize we had recycling places nearby!! Jess--- it is I who is living under the rock LOL!
I honestly don't really have a clue as to what is happening to our environment, but all I can think of is all the garbage we throw away and how its just sitting somewhere in a dump. I have begun taking Target bags full of cans, plastics and paper to the recycling place which is actually on my way to and from work when I take Porter to Leslie's. It was amazing to see how much stuff was being recycled, and I thought... oh my gosh just imagine all this could be sitting in a landfill somewhere. And this is probably just from ONE week in ONE town in ONE state in ONE country. EEEK!!
I'd love if you could post some informative links to environmental statistics.

Am I like the only person in the world who can't get into Nicole's blog? It's been requesting a password when I try to access it, and I haven't been given a password, so I guess I'll have to stop visiting. :(
